when it comes to dressing for walt disney world during the summer (when you aren’t from a hot sweat pit like florida - no offense, y’all) - it’s a tricky field to navigate. it’s hot, humid, and just generally, ~blech~ when you step outside. as someone who grew up going to the parks in big tourist times - spring break and summer - and especially when we would be there for my august birthday, i’ve definitely gotten used to dressing for the heat. as much as i’ll whine and complain about how oppressive the heat and humidity are, I at least have learned how to stay cute and comfortable on long park days.
california in august, while definitely just as hot, is saved by lower humidity (at least when i’ve been there, it’s been fine, but I’m definitely not a cali native). I managed to wear jeans and a sweater for nearly an entire day in disneyland - in AUGUST - and was cool as a cucumber.
so when thinking of how to dress, or really, how to pack for your next trip to the most magical place on earth, in the hottest months of the year - you want to be COMFORTABLE, while still expressing your personal style. looking back on some of my favorite outfits I’ve worn in the heat of florida summer, and sharing some outfits i’m planning to bring this time around!
a lot of these pictures are older, and unfortunately that means many of the exact items are sold out. i’ve linked comparably where possible! for the most part, they’re at least from the same store, or are even the exact same style, the older colorway just may be discontinued.
HALLOWEEN STYLE
disney starts celebrating the holidays early. all holidays. even halloween - which starts in august, according to them.
also, the top two pictures were taken in october, 0% recommend wearing a crewneck in august, i’ve done it, it’s awful, but that crewneck was too cute to pass up.
ANIMAL KINGDOM PRINTS
def not my favorite park, and by far the HOTTEST of the four, animal kingdom (or DAK, as I’ll refer to it from this point on) is a bit of a doozy to me. “i’m not sweating, i’m glittering” heat aside, DAK can be SUCH a fun park to dress up for. playing with animal prints patterns, and colors makes you forget about the heat for juuuuuust long enough.
my go-to’s here are a breezy pair of shorts and a simple top, or a lightweight dress.
MAGIC KINGDOM
a great place to play with color, go for nostalgic vibes, or live out your princess dreams.
EPCOT
despite what I said about DAK earlier, it would seem that EPCOT may actually be my sweatiest park. there are approximately 3 pictures of me in existence in the summer where i’m not in clothes stained with sweat or something I noshed on whilst walking around the world showcase. BUT for EPCOT, I absolutely love a retro vibe. it’s crucial to wear something that keeps you comfy, since you’re gonna do quite a bit of walking! i’ve tried doing jeans around the showcase before, and my little Philly sweat glands were neither pleased nor amused - and that was November. it wasn’t awful, but not my favorite. so back to what works - comfort is king, and if you plan to sample some treats and beverages from “around the world,” pack something stretchy.
DISNEYLAND
ok so disneyland is cute as heck, and not nearly as humid as walt disney world in the hot summer months (again, in my humble opinion based on my experience). while dressing for the heat is obviously still a concern, it’s definitely easier to layer!
I hope this helped you with some outfit ideas for your next trip to the most magical (or the happiest) place on earth!
